From our friends over at Flip Yeah, Parkour, they released an article stating that Parkour is not a sport.  What is it then?

They continue to outline a couple important factors.

Parkour is:
1) Non Competitive
2) No Showing Off
3) No regulation Bodies

They also say:

Quote:
"Parkour matches the definition of a discipline much more closely than that of a sport."

I think it is an interesting article and you should take our word for how GOOD it is and go read the full explanation.  The idea of Parkour not being a sport has been pushed around every since I started training over 7 years ago.  Some people have even taken it to the level of calling it an Art, or Discipline but never really a sport.

In America we find sport to involve competition and clear winners and clear losers.  I think that eventually the Parkour community will have to realize what is truth and what is fact.  Some of those facts will include a governing body like WFPF and their goal to commercialize and govern Parkour competitions.  Their main goals as we can see it now is to create a competitive governing body.  They use the word Parkour to try and entice those who still try and hold onto the basics of movement, however their emphasis is obviously on Free Running.

However there are other organizations trying to get together such as http://ParkourFederation.org who are trying to create guidelines for safe training and guidelines for creating safe communities.  Would that however require Parkour to be a sport?  You decide.
